Gamecock DanceSport Competition Results

On November 3, 2001 the Gamecock DanceSport team participated in its first competition.  The team was invited to the UNC-Charlotte Intercollegiate Invitational Competition in Charlotte, NC.  Four college ballroom dance clubs were represented, the hosts, UNC-Charlotte (2 teams), NC State, USC, and UNC-Chapel Hill.  In the team match at the end of the day, the fledgling Gamecocks finished with a strong second place overall.  The results of the individual events are as follows:

Smooth/Standard:

Waltz
Adrian and Nadja - 1st place (Level Two)
Andy and Abbie - 2nd place (Level Four)

Tango
Adrian and Nadja - 1st place (Level Two)

Quickstep
Adrian and Orshi - 1st place (Open)

Rhythm/Latin:

Rumba
Adrian and Nadja - 1st place (Level Two)
Tim and Abbie - 4th place (Level Three)
John and Linda - 2nd place (Level Four)

Cha-Cha
Tim and Cameron - 3rd place (Level One)

Congratulations to our collegiate competitors.  Pamela Melton, the Faculty Advisor, and Valery Ganiev, the coach, are extremely proud of the showing the team made in its very first competition ever.  Several of these competitors are planning to attend the 2002 Intercontinental DanceSport Festival, January 5-12, in Ft.
