Performs at World Night
The Gamecock
DanceSport team and club members performed a medley of Latin
dances at World Night, an evening of entertainment sponsored by
the USC International Student Organization, of Friday, March 30.
The event, which was the culmination of a week of celebration of
the many international students at the University, featured food
from a number of restaurants, a fashion show of native dress from
many countries, and music and demonstrations of dances from all
parts of the world. The team performed an International
style cha-cha and rumba and were then joined by club members for a
salsa.
DanceSport Team Attends Second Competition
Five members of the USC Gamecock
DanceSport Team attended the Triangle Invitational Ballroom Dance
Competition in Raleigh, N.C. last weekend. They competed
against students representing UNC-Chapel Hill and North Carolina
State. Andy Wilson and Carrie Bacon took first place in the
West Coast Swing competition. Several of the others also
placed well in their events. It was the first competition
for a number of them. The DanceSport team members were given
scholarships to pay for their entry fees by the Greater Columbia
Chapter of USABDA as part of its outreach to young ballroom
dancers.
