"Lucky 13 Dance": Lucky for each and everyone of us that someone, somewhere, and for some reason, introduced us to ballroom dancing. Celebrate that special person, who, perhaps unknowingly, gave you one of the most important reasons that you now enjoy life the way you do. Share this person's name with the people at your table on Sept 13th, and, if you haven't already, let that special person know how much ballroom dancing has contributed to your life.

"Autumn Leaves" Semi-Formal Dance:  Celebrate National Ballroom Dance month and the 11th Anniversary of the Greater Columbia Chapter at the Autumn Leaves semi-formal dance. Dig out those "fancy duds" that have been hanging in the closet these past months and dance the night away.

Elections:  September is election month. When you receive your ballot, be sure to return it immediately. Results will be announced at the "Autumn Leaves" semi-formal dance, September 27th. Be sure to VOTE. Remember that your dues must have been current as of August 1st in order to vote.

Correction:  At our Halloween dance, ribbons will be awarded to the top three winners of the "friendly favorite snack competition", not prizes as I stated in last month's newsletter. Prizes will be awarded for the top three Halloween costumes. Sorry for the mix-up.

Angels of the Month:   Our list of members and guests who helped set-up and clean-up grew to the point where Tom and I were unable to keep track of all the names of you wonderful people who helped out in August. Please forgive us; we will try to do better in September. Just know that we appreciate you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts; you have all made having the dances so much easier for us. And, we cannot forget those very special angels who spend a lot of their time doing the music instead of dancing, so that the rest of us can dance: Stephanie Muga, Al Jayne, & Mike Verdone.

Special Thanks:   This is a very special Thank You to all of our members for attending the dances. You are the reason there is a Chapter to have the dances, and, without your attendance, the dances and the Chapter cease to exist. The U in USABDA stands for YOU. We're looking forward to seeing U at the next dance.

July 26th Guests:  Cindy Cutter, Cathy and Jim Fitzgerald, Michelle Lueck, Barbara Magee, Cecelia Reddy, Michael Stumphi, and Charles Strange.

August Guests:   Pat Abbott, Anita Acvelo, Kay Ayers, George Booth, Wyona & Garry Bradley, Breedlove, Carolyn Creasman, Urich Heben, Betty Langston, Angela Lawson, Robert McCeller, T. Michelle Milling, Lynn & Larry Mueller, Karin Puczkowski, Fred Rehn, Kathy & Harry Scholz, Sharon Scholz, Debbie Small, Herb Smith, Pauline Trumble, and Bob White. Of the many places to dance, thank you for choosing ours. Please, if I left your name off the list by accident or misspelled your name, please call me so that I can correct it.

New Members:   We are very happy to welcome two new members to our fold: Barbara McGee and Breedlove. We look forward to seeing you again, soon, and to many, many more times in the future.

Budding Journalists:   What a group of modest people we have!!! Tom Savage sent me articles some of you have written in the past and they are fantastic. And yet, not a soul responded to my request for articles for the newsletter. Memories should be savored and shared. Two or three lines or a page; whatever works for you. Just remember, we can't put it in if its home on your desk.

Etiquette Tip of the Month:   Relax and have fun ! ! ! You came to the dance to enjoy yourself, so do it. Stop worrying about your feet; chances are high that they will do what they're supposed to do if you let them. And, if they don't, so be it. Just smile and go on.

Delinquent Dues:  If you think your dues may be delinquent, check with Tom Savage. We do not want to drop you from the rolls. You are the reason for our existence.

Survey:  Have you filled out and mailed back the survey, yet? Remember that Bob Sitko has put it on the web site for us. Just get on the Internet, type in www.usabda.net, and you will be able to fill it out and send it right on line. Hard copies are available at each dance. Or just call me and I will mail you one.

News from National:

Oct. 12th, 7 day Dance Cruise from Miami through the Western Caribbean.

Dec. 27-31, Dance Camp, Virginia Beach. 60 classes, nightly social dancing, showcases and a New Year's Eve gala.

Check these both out on the National USABDA web site.

Favorite Snacks Competition:   Start warming up now for the big day and treat our dancers to your favorites over the next four dances.
