There were 59 dancers at the January 14th dance and 57 dancers at the January 28th dance. This is more than we have at times, but not nearly as many as we would like.

The January Board Meeting was held at The Barn, January 14th. Topics of discussion were the user fee, USC Dancesport team, outreach at Lexington High School and Cinco de Mayo night on May 13th. The next Board Meeting will be 6:30 PM, February 11th, at The Barn. All members in good standing are invited to attend.

In case you’ve not heard, there’s a new ballroom in town. Be sure to check out Vista Ballroom, 1019 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC, next door to IHOP. Their first monthly dance was January 7th, and will be held the first Saturday of the month. Call 803-546-3705 for information.

Just so you know, our professional instructors try to help us become better dancers by sharing their personal time when they teach our lessons. It is true they are compensated; however, they teach every day and probably are ready for a break from teaching. This is their way of supporting our chapter, and we need to be sure they know we appreciate them. Next time you see them, be sure to say thanks. 

Remember to volunteer for one task per quarter. Sign up sheets are at the entrance when you come to the dance. We can all do the tasks involved in setting up, decorating, bringing food and cleaning up. Sign up for one month (two dances) and help the dances run more smoothly and everyone have fun.

Don’t forget the dance party showcase in Myrtle Beach on February 10-11. It may be too late to take advantage of the package deal at The Breakers Resort, but tickets are available at the door for $20 per person. Call 843-236-6732 or 843-497-3643 for ticket information. We may not like you missing our Sweetheart Ball, but we can’t complain too much if you’re dancing.

The user fee levied by The Barn was not collected in January but was paid by our chapter; however, it will be collected beginning with the Sweetheart Dance on February 11th. The fee will be collected for each person attending the dance.
