January 2007

There was a good crowd at our Holiday Ball on December 9th. The food was plentiful, and it must have been delicious because it steadily disappeared. We appreciated the Swing lesson taught by Robert Seay of Capital Ballroom Dance Studio and also the Rhumba/Cha Cha/ Rhumba performance by Patricia Hill and Robery Seay. Could you tell when they switched from one to the other?

Topics of discussion at the December 9th Board Meeting were instructors for 2007, web site, Fancy Feet dancers, need for DJs, election, and dance tapes. The next Board Meeting will be January 13, 2007, 6:30 PM, at The Barn. All members of good standing are welcome to attend.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO: Robert Anduiza, Paul Carson, Janet Girard, Grace Keller, Frank Kendrick, Stephanie Muga, Inez Radcliffe, and Donna Swinbank.

Mark your calendar! The America’s Ballroom Challenge (Ohio Star Ball) will air nationally starting in January, 2007 on PBS. One hour segments are to be aired at 8 PM on 1/24/07, 1/31/07, 2/7/07, 2/14/07 and 2/21/07. Check local listings to be sure of date and time. Mary Murphy, one of the judges on “So You Think You Can Dance” was one of the judges at the Ohio Star Ball, and Tony Dovoloni of “Dancing With The Stars” was a contestant.

My sincere apology to Joyce Lagatore and Joe McDonough for not reporting their exhibition on November 11, 2006. They treated us to a Rhumba and a Waltz. Performances by amateurs allow us to see what we can achieve with our dancing.

WHY BALLROOM DANCE?

You will find many profits, many benefits, and many enhancements to life if ballroom dancing is your avocation, pastime, or hobby. You will find an enhanced appreciation of music and its rhythms. You will experience an increased sense of balance and a more fluid movement in walking and running.

Dancing with a partner in harmony with good music will help you develop a more open, under-standing, responsive, and supportive relationship with your partner and with others. Your outlook on life will become more positive.

While all dancing has its value, there will be several completely memorable dances in one’s life. A time when the partner, the music, and the movement all come together in a sense of achievement and pleasure that stays in memory.
