With 60 people attending our first dance of the new year on January 13, we’re off to a good start. We appreciate Sheila Brown’s instruction of Foxtrot at both dances. Thanks also to Trena Ducker and Tom Simmons for the great Cha Cha they performed. Trena and Tom are members of Palmetto Ballroom Dance Club in Florence. We encourage amateurs to perform at the first dance of each month.
Topics of discussion at the January 13 Board Meeting were Cinco de Mayo, USA Dance gift cards and pins, need for DJ’s, local newspaper listing of our dances, annual report, and an increase in rent of The Barn.
The next Board Meeting will be February 10, 2007, 6:00 PM, at The Barn. Remember,
there is only one dance in February.
Welcome to new members Richard Best and Josephine Sciara who joined in December, 2006.
Happy Birthday to: Wayne Bailey, Harvey Evans, Gil Trussell, and Mike Verdone.
My sincere apology to Jo Morton and Robert Seay for not mentioning their memorable Viennese Waltz at the December 9th dance.
America’s Ballroom Challenge was not broadcast locally on January 24 as reported in the January newsletter, however; it is scheduled to begin January 31 at 8:00 PM according to a USA Dance Central Office announcement. An episode is scheduled for each Wednesday during February at 8:00 PM.
A toe tapping, hand clapping good time was experienced by the audience at the Koger Center, Saturday, January 6th, when the SC Philharmonic celebrated the Viennese New Year with waltzes, polkas and ballroom dancing.
With choreography by Sheila Brown, three couples from Vista Ballroom complemented the music of the Blue Danube Waltz and the Voices of Spring Waltz with synchronized Viennese Waltzes. The ladies wore blue gowns while the men wore black trousers, black shirts, black vests and blue ties. Each couple took center stage for short periods, but it was impossible to watch all three couples at the same time because they were in constant motion around the stage.
The evening was a true feast for the eyes and ears. Our chapter was well represented with approximately fifteen members in attendance. No matter what your musical taste, the SC Philharmonic should have something for you.
Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.
