March 2007

There were 69 people at our February 10 dance, the only dance in February. Paul Lagatore, standing in for Tracy Steele, gave us patterns and a little technique when he taught the Rhumba lesson. Later in the evening, Paul performed an elegant Waltz with Barbara Kubodera and a sizzling Rhumba with Grace Keller. Thank you, Paul, for the lesson and the exhibition.

Topics of discussion at the February 10 Board Meeting were Cinco de Mayo, dance lessons at Lexington High School and the cost of training instructors, Annual Report to USA Dance, 2007 budget, and delinquent chapter dues. The next Board Meeting will be March 10, 2007, 6:30 PM, at The Barn. All members in good standing are welcome to attend Board Meetings.

Happy Birthday to: Melissa Bush, Karen Corbett, Vicki Corley, Brenna Davenport, Patricia Hill, Lee Minghi, Jo Morton, Boyd Newman, Bob Sitko, Sean Sluys and Deborah Thomas.

Cha Cha: An exciting syncopated Latin dance which originated in the 1950’s as a slowed down Mambo. The Cha Cha gets its name and character from its distinct repetitive foot rhythm. Check out www.ballroomdancers.com for any dancing term or abbreviation you may not understand.

An almost capacity crowd was at the Greensboro Coliseum on January 27 to see Dancing With The Stars-The Tour, and they were not disappointed. A pro-am competition started the evening with the audience picking the winner later in the show. Celebrity dancers were Harry Hamlin, Drew Lachey, Joey Lawrence, Joe McIntyre and Lisa Rinna. There were solo performances and group performances, and they seemed to enjoy performing without being concerned about impressing judges. Harry and Lisa danced a waltz together, and the season four starting date was announced. Carrie Ann Inaba, the female judge on the television show, was the director.

Are you ready for season four of Dancing With The Stars? It premieres March 19 with a two hour show. The celebrity roster includes South Carolina’s own Leeza Gibbons, Heather Mills, Apolo Anton Ohno, Laila Ali, Clyde Drexler, Vincent Pastore, Billy Ray Cyrus, Joey Fatone, Shandi Finnessey, Paulina Porizkova and Ian Ziering. It will be interesting to see what ABC has in store for us this season.
