The dance floor looked empty with only 30 people at the March 10th dance, but looked better March 24th with 52 people attending the dance. Our heartfelt thanks to Robert Seay for the Cha Cha lesson at both dances. For our viewing pleasure, Robert performed a dreamy Waltz with Norma Davis and a flirtatious Rhumba with Bonnie Belger.

Welcome to new members Freddie Brown, Everdell Davis, Tammy Havens, and Tom Savage.

April Birthdays: Beth Dowtin, Christine Long, Naomi Mart, Stephanie Rodis, and Lisa Sand.

Topics of discussion at the March 10th Board Meeting were Cinco de Mayo dance, ballroom dancing at Lexington High School, new DJ’s, newsletter editor, October election of President, Treasurer and Program Chairman, National Ballroom Dance Week, new chapter banner for The Barn. The next Board Meeting will be April 14th, 6:30 PM, at The Barn. All members in good standing are welcome to attend.

The Fancy Feet dancers continue to represent our chapter by dancing at various facilities in the Greater Columbia area. Three couples danced at Wildewood Downs on February 17th for about 20 residents and were asked to return for an evening exhibition. Three couples danced at Alterra Sterling House off Parklane Road on March 17th for about 30 residents. Norma was told this was the first such visit by a group, and the residents really enjoyed the dancing. They are planning to perform at Forest Pines on April 21st. We can all help by offering to dance or by letting Al Jayne and Norma Davis know we appreciate their efforts.

Don’t forget! April 14th is our Azalea Ball. The azaleas may have bloomed, but that won’t keep us from enjoying a semi-formal dance. The Gamecock Dancesport Club is planning an exhibition. You’ll be sorry if you miss that!

Another dance opportunity on May 19th at the Kershaw County Recreation Building, 1042 DeKalb Street (US 1), Camden, SC, is sponsored by the Sumter Ballroom Dance Club, Kershaw County Ballroom Dancers and Kershaw County Recreation Department. The Carnival Nights dance is from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM, and the cost is $10/person at the door or $8/person in advance. Contact Kay at 803-438-9356 or Denise at 803-423-6010 for more details.

When you hear ‘line of dance’, do you know what it means? According to the Dance Dictionary at www.ballroomdancers.com, it means the counterclockwise flow of traffic around the dance floor. The line of dance represents the general direction of movement overall, and is only pertinent to dances that travel continuously around the floor, such as Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, and Samba. Having a conversation on the dance floor during these dances is not a good idea unless you’re in the middle of the floor.

Life's too short…Dance like no one is watching you!
